TB-500 is a trade name rather than a single defined molecule, and this matters when comparing products between suppliers. The peptide most commonly supplied under the name is Ac-LKKTETQ, an N-acetylated seven-amino-acid fragment corresponding to residues 17 to 23 of Thymosin Beta-4, a naturally occurring actin-regulating protein. Some suppliers instead supply the full-length 43-amino-acid Thymosin Beta-4, which has different molecular properties. Research interest centres on the actin-binding region of Thymosin Beta-4 and its role in sequestering G-actin and regulating actin polymerisation within cells, a mechanism studied in connection with the migration of endothelial cells, keratinocytes and stem cells toward sites of tissue damage. Because the two forms are not equivalent, the composition of any given batch should be confirmed against its own Certificate of Analysis rather than assumed from the product name.
